Texas Holdem Poker is the easiest form of poker for beginners to learn. You can even win with only a few hours of practice. To win consistantly, however, you will need to be equipped with the right Texas Holdem strategy.

Here is a step-by-step overview of a single hand of Texas Holdem poker.

  1. The two players sitting to the left of the Dealer (marked by the Dealer Button) posts the Blinds.
  2. Dealing round #1 (a.k.a. PREFLOP) - Each player is dealt TWO cards facing down called the hole cards or pocket cards.
  3. Betting round #1 - During each betting round you have the options to FOLD, CALL, RAISE, RE-RAISE, or go ALL-IN (bet everything you have on the Texas Holdem Poker table).
  4. Dealing round #2 (a.k.a. FLOP) - THREE “community” cards are dealt in the middle of the table. These cards are shared amongst all the players. You combine these three cards with the two in your hand and form your poker hand.
  5. Betting round #2
  6. Dealing round #3 (a.k.a. TURN) - ONE more card is dealt in the middle of the table for a total of four community cards. Add the two in your hand and there’s a total of six cards. Use the five that give you the best poker hand.
  7. Betting round #3
  8. Dealing round #4 (a.k.a. RIVER) - The last ONE card is dealt in the middle of the table for a total of five community cards. Add the two in your hand and there’s a total of seven cards. Use the five that give you the best poker hand.
  9. Betting round #4
  10. After the final betting round, the player with the best Texas Holdem Poker Hand wins. Note that you do not have to use the two hole cards in your hand. You can use both, only one or none of them.
